"Barrel of Monkeys" | Day 10 "Need You Now" by Lady A from Need You Now (2009) This entry isn't so much about the song as the band and all of their misfortune with their name lately. For those of you who haven't heard, in light of all of the recent talk about racism and the ongoing legacy of slavery and the South, Lady Antebellum (and the Dixie Chicks) decided to change their band name to remove references to their Southern Roots. But while Dixie Chicks became "The Chicks" and both checked with and celebrated the fact that they share a name with a band from New Zealand, Lady Antebellum decided to change their name to "Lady A" without realizing that there was already a fairly prominent African American musician using that stage name... and then sued said musician over the name. I'm not sure that's really the best way to prove that you're sensitive to racial tensions, but sure. You do you, Lady A. |
