My blog--I pull a card--if it doesn't speak to me...perhaps it is for you? |
I pull a card...if it doesn't speak to me...perhaps it was meant for you? How to Read the Tarot Begin by brewing a cup of tea, a nervine, lemon balm or chamomile, this is after all, your future. A reading at the dark of the moon is best, before the night creatures crawl and bad humours fill the air. Pick a circular deck, with a fairy-tale motif, and no reversals. Hold a question in your heart, shuffle the cards and place them on the table. Choose only two. Like the ancient Israelites, these are your seer stones, Urim and Thumimm, black and white, yes or no. Isn't that all you were asking? |
Work There are no exit ramps on this Camino where the work of the world is love. I hold my patient's dry, papery hand as he is dying and tell him, it is okay to go. Tarot of the Crone--Nine of Wands--Power--The nature and strength of your life, and all life, is to move and change. |
Weather As a child in Pittsburgh, I believed it always rained on Good Friday for the solemn Tenebrae service and that was right and just for my whole world was mourning. This Good Friday, in Paris it will be partly sunny, and warm and humid in Florida. At sunset, I will light a single candle, and listen to Corelli's "Miserere" and pray for rain to wash away the acrid smell of smoke and char. I am frequently astounded by the synchronicity of the Tarot. This morning, as I selected a card at random, I pulled XVI---The Tower--traditional decks depict a large tower in flames. Tarot of the Crone--XVI--Tower--Whatever you have been holding back behind your teeth for too long---scream---and free your voice, and your soul. |
Notre Dame--April 15, 2019 I was a silly, feral young woman in Paris, looking for romance, adventure, throwing back cognac in the bars dressed in jeans and boots. I barely glanced at the Cathedral, though today I cry, and pine for a second look. Worms will cover us all someday though her stone gargoyles may still stand. The Madonna of the World is weeping. 12 lines Tarot of the Crone--Ten of Swords--Revelation--Do not despise your yesterday self for not knowing what you know today. |
Spring Season of sweetness dirt, seed, sun and rain. Flour, yeast, water, salt. Bone, blood, tears, reach further than family. Tarot of the Crone--9 of Disks--Community--The antidote to isolation is sharing. |
Palm Sunday A stormy Palm Sunday, seeking a water cure, rain sluicing my skin, a tempest within, with out. Tarot of the Crone--3 of Cups--Communion--Together we are One. Together we are More. |
Water School My astrologer says I have lots of water. Moon, Sun, Mercury in Scorpio, my ascendant Aquarius, the water bearer. I float through this life, and perhaps, the next. Tadpole becoming bufo toad. At night, I lie awake listening to the pond chorus gleaning lessons from the water school. Tarot of the Crone--0-Fool--Becoming formless and timeless is what you need to create a new future. |
Market The market sells nostrums to heal our wounds. Snake oil won't purge our interior serpents. Tarot of the Crone--Witch of Swords--Adversary--Be your own best friend and defense attorney. |
Chiron A meander through the planets. Chiron in Sagittarius, wounded healer, I weep for all. My Chiron is in Sagittarius Tarot of the Crone--XII--Sacrifice--to sacrifice is to make sacred. Let it flood, let it go. |
Old Mermaid Sanctuary A vision become real, the Old Mermaid Sanctuary trumps DisneyWorld. The tyranny of nature rules here. No lies, no despicable deceptions. There are ancient shells in the Wash, jackrabbits, bobcats napping in the grasses, a carpet of desert wildflowers. Silver-haired Kim and gentle-eyed Mario welcome you, invite you to play. And all the Old Mermaids will sing you to sleep. Tarot of the Crone--Ten of Wands--Transformation--I went as far as I could go--and then went farther. |
Song Once upon a time when womyn were birds dawn was filled with songs praising dirt, rock, sun, hands, bread. At dusk, the womyn beat their wings to cool the air their voices rising in cradle songs to sorrow. |
