NEW EXCLUSIVE BADGE ALERT!

I commissioned this to give to everyone who participates in the "NaNoWriMo Write-A-Thon - as a writer, sponsor, and/or donor - during the year in which we reach the milestone of 100 million Gift Points raised by the activity.

Congratulations on your new merit badge! Thank you for supporting the Writing.Com community with your inspirations, participation and activities. We sincerely appreciate it! -SMs

That could very well be this year if we're able to raise 8,701,430 GPs or more in November!

But in order to do that, we're going to need a lot more sign-ups and donations... with only nine days to go until NaNoWriMo, we have less than half the writers signed up that we usually have, and even fewer sponsors and donors.

If you'd like to receive this exclusive badge, head on over to the Write-A-Thon forum and get involved! *Bigsmile*

Back by popular demand for the 16th year... the "NaNoWriMo Write-A-Thon is now open for sign-ups!

If you're planning on writing a novel in November for NaNoWriMo anyway, why not join the Write-A-Thon and help raise gift points for some really amazing Writing.com groups and activities while you're at it?

And this year, I have a special goal in mind ... I'm hoping the activity can raise at least 8,701,430 GPs this year because if we can accomplish that, it'll mean the Write-A-Thon has raised over 100 million GPs in total for WdC groups and activities over the years! *Delight*

That's something worth celebrating! Maybe even by commissioning a special merit badge for everyone who helps us reach our goal... *Whistle*

Does Creedence Clearwater Revival count as defunct? Even if John Fogarty is alive and well?
Anarchist Angel 🏴 - CCR disbanded in 1972, so that definitely counts as a defunct band. But John Fogerty as a solo artist would not be considered defunct since he still performs and has released new music as recently as a few years ago.

To the biggest, baddest Mariah Carey lover the world has ever seen! Your devotion to her and the worst Christmas song in all the world is commendable, if not disturbing... *^*Laugh*^* Thank you for your fabulous music choices (except that song) and for making the [Link To Item #2014890] such a punk-tastic success! Public Service Announcement:

Yesterday, I opened a new round of "Rhythms & Writing: Official WDC Contest that features the song "Fast Car" by Tracy Chapman and Luke Combs, and I forgot to update a part of the forum from last year that still said:

"Write a poem or song lyrics about your own shortcomings and insecurities."

Please note that was a leftover from last year's prompt based on Taylor Swift's song "Anti-Hero." This year, we're back to the prompt being write a short story inspired by the song selection.

The forum has been updated and it's only been up for less than a day, but I'm posting a public note here too just in case anybody's already started thinking of a poem or song lyrics and needs to adjust.

So sorry for the confusion!

Oh great! *Frown* Sorry I missed this post because I just spent half a day on ideas for a poem. Luckily, I'd gone back to the contest to listen to the song again and saw the change before I posted a poem. Maybe you should mention it again... just in case someone else missed it.
ß00eyeʐ - Whoa. You are fast!
Fearlycia Lee ☮ - Not really. It normally takes all month to write something. I wouldn't call that fast. I had only started working on something.

My nine-year-old son has apparently discovered the "agree to disagree" response to an argument. Unfortunately, he hasn't quite figured out that it only really works with opinions and is a little tougher to use on facts.

Today he asked me what our new steam cleaner is for and when I said it uses steam to clean things like surfaces, fabrics, etc. he argued and said he thought it was to clean dirty steam. I tried to tell him he was incorrect, and he just goes, "Yeah, well... agree to disagree." *RollEyes*

Can't want to see how this argument strategy is going to work out for him long term! *Rolling*

To be fair, there is some ambiguity in the term "steam cleaner."
I think your son has it right.
It's logical. Steam cleaner sounds like a machine that cleans steam
I was running a D&D adventure for some friends last night and it was one of those sessions where everything that could go wrong for the players did. They tried to sneak in somewhere, and got discovered by an employee. A pair of guards walked in on them while they were trying to hide the employee's unconscious form. While they were interrogating their target quietly in her office, they realized they were doing it in full view of people in the garden outside the window.

This was the vibe all night...

... and it was glorious. Peak D&D. *Laugh* We all haven't had that much fun at a game in ages.

D & D--that brings back very fond memories of my first Army assignment in Germany in the late 70's. As one of five or six single Lieutenants, we would get together for an all-night session of D & D. One of the LT's would use the music of Al Stewart to set the theme for and run the game.

I still have several dice we would use in the game--including a 17-sided die.
Polter-JACE: Cruising ... - I have way, way too many polyhedral dice. *Laugh*
The most memorable and fun DnD sessions have been where someone rolls a 1 and/or the DM is on a "TPK" (total party kill) mood. LOL. Glad we're not the only ones that enjoy the Epic Fail sessions.
