Have you claimed your Achievement Merit Badges?
Happy 10th Writing.com account anniversary.

Make sure to collect your special merit badge in the achievement area.
So, it's birthday week for WdC - happy birthday *Cake* *BalloonP* to my fav writing site! - and Tiger Cub 🔱 is hosting a merit badge hunt. So in tracking down of the illusive "Kiwis on WDC!"   by Osirantinous badge, I looked up the lyrics to a favourite NZ song, Porkarekare Ana.
Written below is both the Māori and the English translation. Written during WW1, Porkarekare Ana is a gentle, lilting love song (the sort I normally avoid). I first heard it sung by the stunning Hayley Westenra when I was a teenager and the haunting melody stuck with me, but below I have linked a choir version (which also shows some gorgeous NZ scenery) as I love the men singing the first verse.

Pōkarekare ana, ngā wai o Waiapu
Whiti atu koe hine, marino ana e.
E hine e, hoki mai ra, ka mate ahau i te aroha e.
Tuhituhi taku reta, tuku atu taku rīngi
Kia kite tō iwi, raru raru ana e.
E hine e, hoki mai ra, ka mate ahau i te aroha e.
E kore te aroha, e maroke i te rā
Mākūkū tonu i aku roimata e.
E hine e, hoki mai ra, ka mate ahau i te aroha e.
Whati whati taku pene, kua pau aku pepa
Ko taku aroha, mau tonu ana e.
E hine e, hoki mai ra, ka mate ahau i te aroha e.

The waves are breaking, against the shores of Waiapu,
My heart is aching, for your return my love.
Oh my beloved girl, come back to me, I could die of love for you.
I have written you a letter, and enclosed with it my ring,
So your people could see it how much I'm troubled for you.
Oh my beloved girl, come back to me, I could die of love for you.
The sun's hot sheen, won't scorch my love,
Being kept evergreen, by the falling of my tears.
Oh girl, Come back to me, I could die of love for you.
My poor pen is broken, my paper is spent,
But my love for you endures, and remains forever more.
Oh my beloved girl, come back to me, I could die of love for you.

Originally I listened to this song purely for beauty of the music, but now I will listen for the heart-felt simplicity of the lyrics too.

I actually didn't know the English translation. I learned this song in primary school though. *Smile*
Love it, MM.
After a (not so-)-brief hiatus from WdC, I'm pleased to announce the Mushroom is back! *Mushroomr*
Expect to hear far too much about my travels (mostly probably in the form of worlds-based-upon... I've already started a Lake Tititcaca-like world).

So, you have been warned; if you chose not to enable fungicide functions on your browser, that is not my problem *Pthb*
One of the greatest authors ever has been lost to our world. Farewell Terry Pratchett, I truly, truly hope you rest in peace.
*Starr* There's (yet another) meme going round Facebook at the moment. It's called Pay It Forward.
Very simply, the first five people to respond with 'I'm in' will get, over the coming year, five nice little surprises. These can be whatever the original poster decides and can occur at any point in those 12 months.
The only stipulation is that the responder then re-posts so that others can join in. *Starr*

The idea is to spread love and happiness and (presumably) fluffy pink unicorns through the multiverse. I happen to think it's actually a beautiful idea and would like to see it spread through WdC. It's all very RAOK *Smile*

So, in order to bring it more in line with WdC, I'm offering the first five respondents the same option - but surprises may include reviews, specially dedicated poems/prose, MB or GP, and (if I have your home address) even random pressies in the post* *Smile*

Or anything else that I think will make us both smile.

*Rainbowl* PAY IT FORWARD*Rainbowr*

*Up to, and possibly including, fluffy pink unicorns. Hey, I got one.
Me. Me. Me. *Smile*
Typical - the first time I go to enter The Writer's Cramp in aaaaaaages and I end having a neighbour pop in for a cuppa. And miss the deadline *Frown*

Oh well. I wrote it anyway *Teab*

Finally, it looks like summer might be on it's way to the British Iles *Bigsmile* You have no idea how wonderful that feels. Especially after a couple of crazy-busy months and what feels like a hiatus from WdC (it wasn't a complete one, but yes

And in other news, and completely out of character, I probably ought to point out that my WdC absence hasn't been entirely work related - Miget_Mushroom the confirmed bachelorette (spinster just sounds nasty and desperate) has finally met someone....
.... *Shock* this is going to take some getting used too.*
Advice on how to juggle a 45hr week with writing and someone who thinks books are just expensive tea coasters much appreciated!

*Actually we've been together since Christmas, but this whole girl-friend lark just feels plain weird. Even now.

Great to see our SCFS group mentioned in your note! And I like the Steampunk group too.
