pop-song parody for Halloween
Pathway to Eden
(parody of Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven)

I'm a woman who knows
that with roots, sticks, and bones
I am mapping a pathway to Eden.
When I get there I know
all the gods will be so close
with I sigh I can have them draw near.

O-h-h-h, a pathway to Eden.

I draw veves on my wall,
the orishas to call
and all of my spells have two meanings.
In the deep wilderness
there's a rare bird that sings
of the thoughts shapeshifting my future.

O-h-h and I wander, truly, truly, wander.

There's a feeling I get when I face to the west
And my spirit cries out to Yemanja.
In my dreams I have seen
wild powers coursing through me
and I know that my mojo is working.

It's whispered that soon all will come to voudou
and the mambos will lead us to reason.
And a new day will dawn for those who stand strong
And the planet will echo with laughter.
O-h-h. O-h-h.

If there's a pin-doll under your pillow
don't be alarmed now.
It's just a poppet for your pleasure.
Yes, there are many paths you can go by
but in the long run
you choose the path you are running on.

Oh, it makes me wander.

My head is spinnin', and I must go, because I know
the spirits are calling me to join them.
I can hear the wind blow, and I know
my pathway lies with the whispering wind.
Pathway to Eden. Pathway to Eden.
I can' t buy it, I can't borrow,
I must scoop it from my marrow.
Pathway to Eden. Pathway to Eden.

And as I walk on down the road,
all that matters is my soul.
All that glitters is not gold,
I won't be left lonely, lost and hollow.
You can't hide from yourself forever.
You gotta work to get to Eden.
Pathway to Eden.
If I listen and hold fast
to every question that is asked
the truth will be known at last,
And I'm mapping a pathway to Eden.
