Longest Distance

It's sad to know sometimes
that I will never own your heart
although you have captured mine.

Thoughts of us together one day
are easier said than done
no matter how hard we may try.

Always a phone call away
yet steps far beyond our reach
separating you from my side.

But no matter where you go
or what path you may take
I'll always be close behind.

Following in every footstep you make
breathing in every breath you exhale
even if only in my mind.
