Pam is David's high school sweetheart,so when she calls he goes running to her. |
Fleet footed and able bodied, he ran up the steps with ease and dashed down the hallway. Like a dancer, he swept past the pedestrians and with the grace of a dove he flew over the railing of the balcony. From there he proceeded to plummit like a stone. Landing on his feet, he had to pause for a moment to remember where he had parked. The parking lot was suddenly the size of an ocean filled with obsticles standing in his way. Damn, of all the days to forget where I parked he said to himself, slaping at his head as if it would help him remember where it was. Spotting his truck down the middle aisle all the way in the back, he began running again. "Hold on Pammy, I'll be there soon," he shouted out loud. Reaching his truck he fumbled with the keys. He noticed he was shaking like a leaf. He dropped the keys at least a dozen times trying to unlock the door in the dark. "Finally," he let out, opening the door and sliding in. Pam had called him while he was in class, but he had to wait till it was over to listen to her message. "Dav, hon, I've got some great news so when you get a chance can you come over?" She had such excitement in her voice, it had sounded very important. Pam knew she wasn't supposed to call him while he was in school, so he was surprised to see her name lighting up his phone. It had to be important if she was calling now. ************************************************************************************************* Pamela Stout had been David's high school sweetheart. They first met his freshman year when he moved to this small town from the big city. David feel in love with her the first day of school. Her eyes had captured him immediately. They were a deep sea green which reminded him of the Meditereanean he had visited once. She had bound right up to him that first day, all bubbly and full of life. She was fearless and beautiful, just his type. It didn't take him long to own her heart. She often told David she was the luckiest girl in the world. Out of every girl in that small town, he chose her. All the girls had wanted him, he knew it too. They were tierd of the boys they had grown up with. Davis was a welcomed change to the town. Not bad looking either, comparied to the competition anyway. They were the perfect couple. Everyone knew they would stay together, always. Both of them broke hearts, but they didn't care. They had eachother's and that was all that mattered. David had a day job working for his father and went to college at night. Pam went to college during the day and still lived at home with her parent's as neither of them were ready or able to settle down yet. David wasn't planning on staying in this small town for the rest of his life and as long as Pam was willing to go with him, he didn't care where they ended up. Everyone knew they were going to leave, it was just a matter of time. Once they both finished school they planned to get married and move to a big city where jobs were ample. ************************************************************************************************* Driving to Pam's, David could see her sitting there full of impatience and excitement waiting for him. What on Earth could be so important to pull me away from school? Especially during mid terms. Thoughts, good and bad, started running through his head. He pushed the gas harder. He had to find out, if for anything, to ease his rambling mind. Pulling into the driveway, David unbuckled and opened his door before turning off the ignition. Pulling the keys, he dashed to the house, not looking back to see if he had put his truck in park, as he was parked on a steep hill. David opened the door, as Pam's family had allowed him the priviledge years ago, and headed for the stairs leading to Pam's room. "David," he heard. "What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be taking mid terms?" "Ohh, sorry Mrs. Stout. Pam called and said she had some good news for me so I rushed right over," he explained, heading towards the top of the stairs. "But, but David," was all he heard as he bounded down the hall. Taking a deep breath to calm down, he knocked and entered the room on Pam's prompt. "David, what are you doing here already? You're supposed to be taking mid terms." Pam had jumped up off her bed as soon as she had seen him. "What on Earth, did you run all the way here? You're dripping with sweat and out of breath," she said, wipping at the sweat on his brow. "You called me remember? You asked me to come as soon as I could. You sounded so excited I thought it was important, so here I am. So what's the good news? It's gotta be good to pull me out of classes!" he asked wrapping his arm around Pam walking her back over to the bed. "David, I didn't mean for you to come now!" she yelled. "You're taking mid terms for Gods sake. Nothing is more important than that right now. I just got excited and I know I'm not supposed to call when you're in class, but I couldn't help myself. I'm sorry you left thinking that," she said with her puppy dog eyes that always melted his heart. "Well it's done. I'm already here so what's the big news? Let me be the judge on how important it is," David said sturnly. "Well okay then, but don't get mad at me. I didn't tell you to come over right away, just remember that!" she said, turning her back and walking to her closet. She bounced back over to David with her hands behind her back and looked at him with a big smile. "Surprise honey!" Pulling out from behind her back two identical shirts. "I have been looking around forever to find us shirts like these! I ended up having to order them through the mail. They finally came today, that's why I was so excited when I called you." She handed the larger shirt to David. He was stunned. He couldn't believe he just blew off his mid terms for matching shirts! "It's beautiful Pammy," he said, flopping down on her bed, covering the embarassment on his face. "I told you," Pam said, bouncing back over to the closet to put her shirt away. |
