A poem about being yourself

I tried to be different and I tried to change,

But all that was left was a me that was strange.

I was not myself for such a long while;

My face seemed to struggle to bring out a smile.

I hid my emotions and tried to be strong,

But being what others had wanted was wrong.

All of this changing was bad for my health;

It seemed that I struggled to just be myself.

Too many people are so quick to judge

The picture they carry of you has a smudge

And when you attempt to be someone you’re not:

You’ll never be happy with all that you’ve got.

Do not be afraid to show who you are,

Though, people may judge you as strange or bizarre.

Just be yourself and the people will see:

That being yourself is what makes you happy.
