Sometimes breaking the rules is justified. |
My son came home today suspension papers in hand. He said, “Don’t get mad, Mom. It was just the way we planned.” I sat down to talk to him, to learn what he’d done wrong. He wore a smile on his face and sang a Christian song. After I read the papers, I found out he skipped school. I looked at him pointedly. “Do you think I’m a fool?” He said, “Mom, you don’t get it. At school they take away free speech. I have a friend in hard times, so we went down to the beach. “The first thing when we got there, I asked if she knew Christ. She shook her head, saying no, so I said, ‘He’s changed my life.’ “I shared about my defiance and the wrongs that I had done, but when I came to live with you, you taught me about his love. “Before the day was over, she said that sinner’s prayer. Do we have a Bible, Mom, I can take over there?” I looked at him, my face was wet, my heart was full of pride. My son had shared the message about why Jesus died. I laid the Bible in his hands and smiled at him so bright. I told him: “Please don’t worry, son, cause what you did is right.” Author's Note: I know there are a couple areas where this does not rhyme perfectly, and where the meter is off a tad. I am mostly interested in reviews based on the message. Thank you. |
