can a group of teens survive after a plane crash in the snowy mountains. week 3 for 52 wk |
| Prompt for week 3. As the sun rises, the small group found themselves in a small cabin and the snow was still falling. A small fire was going in the fireplace, and the four of them were huddled close to it, and each other, trying to keep every bit of heat within them that they could, mainly because heat means life. Sean was the first to awaken; he sat up trying to wake up by rubbing his face and eyes. Trying to stay quiet, he got up and went to the fire and put another log onto the fire. He gently placed it and stared at it as the fire began to consume this new fuel just thrown on there. After it started catching, he walked over to the window, and looked at the condition of the outside weather. It seems clear enough to move. A stirring behind him caused him to turn his head, It was the youngest one of the group, Sally. Sean tip toed over to her, and kneeled down beside her. “Good morning sunshine,” He whispered. “Hi, “she managed to say quietly,” is the weather clear enough to move?” Sean nodded, which brought a smile to her face. “But we shouldn’t wait too long before we move, before this nice weather changes,” Sean added. Sally immediately got up and started preparing her pack for the move back to civilization, while Sean started to wake the others, who basically did the same thing. Within about twenty minutes, the four of them were ready to go. Sean and Todd had to pry the door of the cabin opened revealing how bad the snow had been when they took refuge in this place, it was a solid wall of hard packed snow. Sean had pulled the pick ax out of his pack and began to chip away at the obstacle that faced them, while Todd pull the bigger pieces out of his way. It didn’t take but about ten minutes for the two of them to break through the snow and ice into the light of a new day. Once the four of them were out of the cabin they tied themselves together for safety with Sandra in the lead with a compass. Once she got her bearings, they headed out, being careful where they stepped, as with this much snow, the footholds were all covered but so were the bad places which could cause them to fall. No one wanted that. They walked for a couple hours, up and over one hill, just to go down into the valley on the other side and up the next. The trail was hard for them, as none of them had this kind of training, but were going on just a basic survival instinct to get them back to the settlement. But finally, they crested a small mountain, as the day began to come to a close. As the lights of the settlement came into view the whole group cheered as they were not only tired but they had eaten nothing since their small plane crashed in the mountains, killing the pilot. “Ok,” Sean said trying to keep the group moving ,”Let’s not loose our heads yet, we aren’t there yet.” The groups excitement was obvious, but they tried to keep it to a dull roar, as they slowly made the dangerous trek down the side of the mountain, and entering the settlement and safety. They all cheered again once they passed through the gates, and immediately went to get some food. |
