On growing old together

Bear with me, my love,
for the fires that drive
my passion,
my curiosity and,
my sense of adventure,
have been reduced
to embers
by the passage of time.

I shall not wander aimlessly
in Nature’s domain simply
because it is there,
it is beautiful,
It is challenging,
and interesting;
my stamina is absent.

Nor shall I look towards distant shores
and cultures to appease my curiosity,
enjoy new experiences,
learn new languages;
I am content at home.

That comfortable chair invites me
to bring my book,
relax,
and let my mind travel
as it will,
experiencing, sharing, and enjoying
the feelings of others
I find written in text.

I shall not love you any less, my love,
more quietly perhaps,
but as deeply appreciative of your love for me
as ever.

We two, my love, are one.
