A poem about a special relationship between a raven and a gardener
The Raven

A blue sheen shining on velvet black feathers,
curious bright eyes that indicated keen intelligence,
a summertime routine visitor on my fence
came to know me,
as I came to know him,
and we became

Only those who are openly ignorant
fail to realize, or understand,
that special bonds can form
between animals and humans,
which are true
and forever

He had a special squawk just for me,
I named him Solomon and he understood
this was his name,
and while I tended my garden,
we would talk
and squawk

I anticipated the date of May 20th
of every year for ten years,
happily knowing I would get to see
the beautiful and intelligent raven
whom I had
come to

Last year, for the first time in ten years
Solomon was three days late,
and though anxious, my heart leapt with joy,
until I realized his beautiful
feathered blue sheen
was no longer

He barely talked to me,
but his love for me was still in his eyes,
and I tried not to cry in my garden,
because I, instinctually, knew
my beautiful raven
was slowly

This year I waited for Solomon,
even though I knew in my heart
that he was not coming back,
and I prayed that Solomon
is happily flying
forever in

I miss you, my friend,
you were much more than just a bird,
you were an intelligent soul
who could express love,
and I know that
you and I will meet
again in
