A short poem about what it's like to always be quieted down
I kept quiet when they told me I was loud
I kept quiet when they said I should settle down
I kept quiet when they were the ones shouting
I kept quiet, but the depths of my heart were fighting

I kept quiet even though I wanted to sing
I kept quiet all throughout the days of spring
I kept quiet when I wanted to cry
I kept quiet when I just wanted to die

I kept quiet when they pushed me around
I kept quiet every time i got beaten down
I kept quiet with every word I spoke
I kept quiet every morning that I woke

I kept quiet, quiet with my heart
And little by little I pulled it apart.
One day they asked me why I wouldn’t speak
But there was nothing left inside of me to keep.
