A poem about one example of a writer's struggles.
I'm drying the dishes.
My eyes settle on the knife
sitting in the sink.
It's a rather large knife.
In seconds,
my mind wanders
to a vivid picture
of me picking up that knife
and cutting a line
across my arm,
watching as my blood
coats the knife
and drips down
onto the kitchen floor.
Shaking the image out of my head,
I dry the knife
and put it away.
