As a young asthmatic, I had to watch fireworks from our lounge window.

You lit up the sky
in a rainbow of colours
twinkles darting and dotting
the dark surrounds.

I tried to catch one
and hold it close
as it dissolved into
the hanging haze.

Eyes watering, I wove
my name into the invisible
blackboard, the letters
suspended momentarily.

She looked down from her
watchtower, her hand hovering mid air
against the cold glass,
overseeing the pyrotechnic display.

Her view, as a spectator -
a panoramic spreadsheet.
breathing laboured,
a constant reminder,
Not to inhale
The excitements of life.
