|The tiny ripples
distorting reflections in
a calm pond as a koi’s tail
barely breaks the surface,
suggest a calm disruption
of this otherwise pristine body.
And even though scale does wonders
to keep the ripples tranquil
as we meditate beside the pond,
to the ant stuck atop a fallen leaf,
tranquility translates to terror.
The ripples rise to insurmountable heights
roaring like the tempest as they tower and topple
his tiny boat. These ripples—so called—by those gigantic humans
are the terrors inspiring tales told by only the saltiest of sailors
who survive this pond.
All the while, with the rhythm of calm breath,
the gentle concentric circles ripple out and gently fade
at the edges of the pond.
