I made this right after watching the film, "Unfriended". An impulse poem, if you will.
How can something so impersonal
Reveal so much about ourselves?
Anonymity is a weapon
That can both protect and destroy
Any life online.
Under a cover
A bias
A false identity
We are reborn into a seemingly free world
Free of connection
Free of blame
Free of consequence.
Nevertheless,
Some don't need a shield
To protect their identity.
All that is needed
Is a barrier,
A barrier that gives us the illusion
Of security,
Though it fails to keep things truly private.
It's all temporary.
So maybe it's the utmost form of reality,
Which we mask behind euphemism,

impersonal.
