Tigerlily saves a family of bunnies from a rooftop. Written for contest. |
Tigerlily on the Rooftop Tigerlily scooted up the ladder like the cat she used to be. Her orange and white tail balanced her easily as the sharp fingernails gripped the old wood rungs with surety. She did not really need the ladder, but the talk of the town was about a family of rabbits that had been swept up and onto the roof by a wayward wind. Rabbits are not known for galloping about on rooftops and were probably quite frightened and wanted to get down. Going about on the steep roof on all fours was easier than two legs. Her clawlike nails pierced the wooden shingle, but not enough to leave holes all the way through. She moved from quadrant to quadrant looking with her catlike eyes and listening with her catlike ears. Just when she thought it was a hoax, she spotted the four tiny, furry, brown bodies huddled close to the bricks of the chimney. They were desperately cold and trying to keep warm and safe far from the drop of the edge. Slowly the catgirl swished her tail and bared her fangs. "They are friends, not food." She muttered edging close to the trembling little family. Petting the little rabbits gently, she eventually grasped the father and moved back to the ladder. Hand over hand the train of helpers brought the scared bunny to earth. Three more times Tigerlily passed a small body till all four were placed in the bushes on the side of the small house. The tiny family bounded away; their fluffy white tails showing in their haste. Tigerlily smiled and returned to the Tavern of Dried Tears for a bit of dinner and a drink. |
