Danny learns a lesson

Danny couldn’t wait for his parents to leave..

“You’re nearly eighteen, Danny,” his father said, “can we trust you to take of everything for a few days?”

“Sure, Dad. You and Mum have a good time, I’ll be fine, don’t worry.”

“Don’t forget to feed Gypsy,” his mother reminded him as they left the house.

When the front door closed behind them, Danny smiled, before calling a few mates to let them know to come over. The dog stared at him suspiciously.

The friends he’d invited over—despite his father’s warning against having guests while they were away—soon swelled in number as the word got around that Danny’s parents were away and there was a party.

Soon a large crowd of youths and girls from school began to gather, Gypsy barked madly.

“Hi guys, look there’s been a mistake, no party tonight,” pleaded Danny, but even more teenagers arrived, carrying cans of beer and casks of cheap wine. Soon Danny was unable to control the situation, forced to watch helplessly as the party moved outside, taking their boom box and loud rap music with them. Mr Snark next door called the police.

After the police and the revellers had left, and Danny had been cautioned with holding an out of control party, he surveyed the damage. Desperate his parents should never discover his deception, he spent the following two days putting the house back together. After rescuing the outdoor furniture from the water he cleaned the pool and swept up broken glass. In the house he vacuumed and mopped, cleaned the vomit from the toilet and even had remake his parents’ bed.


Gypsy barked. Danny glanced through the window. “They’re back. Not a word, Gypsy.”

“Hi, we’re home, everything ok?”

Danny just nodded and the dog whimpered.
