Record #1 of an interview with Captain Hedret.

"It all started a week ago, one of them city blokes handed me a couple bills, didn't say anything except passage, we were going to sail thataway anyway, I said to her. Didn't look like a fugitive to me, not a bit. She was looking well-off and carrying around a heavy looking case, and a couple of the boys offered to carry it for her but... No, she was very sure that she didn't need help.

Once we took off it was strange, yeah, took her awhile to give me a straight answer for her name... As captain, I write down all my passenger's names y'know. I follow all maritime laws nowadays, that is. According to her, this girl's name was something to the effect of Cynthia Plank... very city name so I hardly even thought it was different.

We had a heavy load that day, we did. Squeeze it in before the storm rolled in, says the port authority to me. Need supplies down south, fighting or something or other. I argued it a bit but you know what it's like with those law folks...

We went and sailed out for a few miles, three thirds of the sea we did. That storm caught up with us though, waves slapping the hull... sails getting torn everywhere.. Our engine got doused real good. About to capsize, we were.

But what was weird, what really got me... was that girl jumping overboard. Crazy to fare against those waves, but she didn't listen... didn't heed my words. That's the last I saw her. Dragged her bag along with her too.

Our ship was wrecked, paddled to shore on a rowie with half my crew. The other half, I haven't seen. I'm sure you don't care about us though, you and those contracts don't care one bit. That's all I say, I know nothing about any fugitives."
