Though Phillip killed her, she will exact revenge. 300-word flash

Always Return

“Don’t come back! Phillip screamed as he emptied the gun into me. As I fell through the open door, my last thoughts were of vengeance.
Two weeks later, I slithered through under the door, crunching on long dead bones from the graveyard where he had planted me. The thought of his fresh, juicy bones with fresh blood drove me onward.

“Phillip, come to me!” I moaned.
He groaned and tossed in his bed over and over. I continued my litany until he woke. When he did, I slithered under the bed as if I’d never been there. This went on for hours. Phillip woke up exhausted. But I disguised myself as dust bunnies under the bed and slept the rest of the righteous until the time of my death the next night.
This went on for weeks. Finally, he cracked. He roused himself from his bed, grabbed his revolver from the bedside table and roared: “I thought I told you not to come back!”
I moaned in the darkness, “I will always come back!”

He screamed endlessly, falling into madness. As he gibbered and cursed, I slithered back to my borrowed gravesite, contented to have exacted my revenge.
It was later, when I sensed his presence outside my shared gravesite. I heard him digging and scraping. Finally, he reached my remains. He began to hack and chop at what was left of me, in a frenzy.
I burrowed deeper into the ground to escape. Spine only I may be, but my sense of preservation is heightened. I heard the gravediggers calling the police and having him taken away. He would be tried; I knew for desecration of a corpse and confined to a hospital for the criminally insane. That was enough for revenge. For now, at least.
