Recollection of a few seconds of magic between two people

Under a blanket of stars you drew me in.
Tender, gentle lips kissed my cheek.
You pulled me close--time stood still.
The earth stopped turning.
In that moment, there was only you and me.
Softly moaning, you held me tighter.
The energy of the universe pulsed through my body.
Lightning must have struck--I must have been on fire.
The ground disappeared beneath me.
Suspended in magic, I captured every breath, every heartbeat.
You let me go and I felt the earth turn again.
I looked into your eyes--you must have seen the surprise in mine.
Never had anyone held me with such genuine sweetness.
I had been wrong before--maybe I was wrong this time.
Was this merely a kind gesture
Or was it something rare and special
Meant only for that precious moment?
