Inspired by the War Memorial in the rose gardens at Brooke Street and Mount in Missoula.

Memorial Day in August

orange butterfly on blue lobelia
fortieth generation since you lost the fight

the future we once faced
so far behind it's history
we best remember
that fear filled time

with names on plaques
and one bronze angel
enveloping the cocoon
of what was once your life

from the chrysalis of birthing
the crucible of war
from deep blue petals
one orange butterfly takes flight
