Hour 3 Poetry Marathon prompt

Deep in the woods the children play

Ignoring the words their mothers say

“Don’t go too deep” they warn

They marvel at the rays of sun

Beaming through the trees

Catching shadows, making them dance in the breeze

“It’s fine” one confidently says

The others look around

Innocent shadows, now seeming malevolent

“there’s someone there”

A tremor in the voice, uncertain

The other scoff, aware of the myths

Wind picking up, the sun seems dimmer

“who’s there?”

The confident one asks

The wind whispers

“Ones who hide in the shadows”

It says

Nearly dark, the children uneasy

“let’s go home”

One nervously says

The wind whispers again

“Not without us”

Echoing around the woods
