Letters From Home

Dear, Brady;

I have a few minutes so figured I would sit down and answer your last letter. I hope you have been well since we last wrote. I know in your letter you seemed to be doin' alright. Glad to hear you have a chance to get off base every once in awhile. It's good to have an outlet like that. Just be safe out there and remember you got a family back home. I remember when I was there, the kind of trouble I could get into. Mind your manners is all I'm sayin'.
Everyone here sends their love and want you to know you're missed. Your baby boy is almost walkin' now. Hard to believe it's been that long already.
Jenny sure misses you, but she keeps busy with work and the baby. They're a good distraction. I'm sendin' you a recent picture of them.
Your sister finally got off her butt and got a job down at Dixie's, waitressin'. She ain't too fond of it, but it helps pay the bills around here and it keeps her out of trouble with them boys. Too many of them been comin' around here lookin' for her to go out with them. I ain't allowin' none of them. I see them comin' up the road and I be grabbin' my shotgun and standin' in the doorway, waitin'. They know not to come round here no more.
Haven't heard much from your brother. Have you been keepin' an eye out for him? Is he doin' alright? Tell him to write us every once in awhile. Sure would like to know how he's gettin' on with all this. I know he didn't want to go over there in the first place.
Well, there ain't nothin' more to write about, except that your Ma up and died on us this mornin'. Sure was unexpected as she was healthy as a horse. I think it was a broken heart cause of you and your brother bein' gone. We won't know until we hear from the doctor later, but that's what I'm bettin' on. We will let you boys know as soon as we know.
Don't be worryin' about tryin' to get back here for no funeral. Probably won't be one as we don't have the money for all that. Besides she always said she never wanted anyone worryin' about any of all that. Just say your prayers for her tonight. There's nothin' else you can do now for her anyway. You just take care of yourself and your brother out there and let your brother know about Ma. Hope to hear back from you soon, son. We all love you.

Yours,
Daddy

By the way, thank you for the money you sent us last month. It sure was a blessin', especially now with Ma bein' gone.
