| Day 11: "Even a man who is pure at heart and says his prayers at night, may become a wolf when the wolfsbane blooms and the autumn moon is bright.” — The Wolf Man (1941) Everybody just assumes wolves are evil. People who turn into animals? Generally bad news in a lot of lore. I was born a werewolf. There's more to us than the stereotypes. Let me be perfectly clear, we don't bite people without provocation. At least for me and most of the other wolves I know we don't steal livestock. I mean there's always the one person who for whatever reason can't help themselves. Still if you're looking for the real villain? Those Coyotes are all over the place and they will kill anything. Damn opportunistic jerks! Anyways, the whole thing about wolf's bane blooming has nothing to do with our transformation. Just sheer coincidence that our largest gatherings happen around the same time that toxic herb flowers. I was in FoodLion grabbing some supplies when I ran into one of my pack mates. "Hey Chris," I said. "You ready for the Big Howl?" He looked at me and frowned. "Hey Tina," Chris said. "I'm not so sure I want to go. After Fran's passing, I haven't been the same." I gave him a comforting side hug. "Thats gotta be rough," I said. "Loosing your alpha like that. Can't believe Fran got hit by a car. Your kids doing okay?" Chris looked about ready to cry. "They miss their mom," he said. "Excuse me, gotta go check with the pharmacy, see if they got anything for my indoor allergies." He pushed his cart past me at a brisk pace. I kind of felt bad for probing so much. I was just worried, I'd known Chris since we were pups. We were from the same pack, he was like a brother to me. The Big Howl wouldn't be the same without him or Fran. Part of me hoped I never found an alpha. We mate for life. It's devastating loosing a bond that strong. |
