The Magic

Friends, here is a story with a twist in the end. Hope you like it.

Reena was about to make tea.

As the sun rose in the morning sky, it always found this petite housewife making tea in the kitchen as her husband, Ravi and her toddler, Ritu, soundly slept in the master bedroom of their single-storied home in a Delhi suburb. It was a picture of domestic tranquillity.

There was, however, one dent in this picture. Reena always wished that Ravi would join her at tea. But for this hard-working corporate executive, sleep came first and tea, second. Thus, Ravi has not joined his wife for tea even once, weekends included, since they got married two years ago.

Normally, Reena prepared tea in her special tea pan with a lid. That summer morning, she suddenly remembered that there was a dusty ceramic teapot lying unused on the shelf for a long time. It was her wedding present given to her by her late Grandma, whom she loved dearly.

Reena decided that it was best to use the teapot for once at least. So, making her way to the big teak wood shelf in the hall, she picked up the teapot and brought it to the kitchen. Before using it, she silently prayed to Grandma. Then she washed the teapot, placed tea leaves in it and finally added boiling water before closing its top.

But, lo and behold! There is a sound of footsteps behind Reena. Whose face is peeping from behind the kitchen door at this hour? Oh, it is none other than Ravi!

And what’s he saying in a sheepish tone? Ah, it is, “Thodi chai milegi?” (Can I have some tea, please?)

Reena smiled.

Her grandma had granted her the magic she prayed for.
