Madame Diehl

Surely the lavender blooms
without your attention.
Certainly crabapples shed unwanted fruit.
Whether they flourish or not, do you care?
At what do your blank eyes gaze?
At what do you stare behind me?
A life best summed up
in a prim blue dress
and a splash of crinkled red at your throat.
with your hair bouffant, complete with a bow,
what frivolity bounces around in your mind?
Mind you, I'll never know.
