Overcoming Insistent Self

The ego self
is a cruel master...
unforgiving.

I hold in my hands
the legacy of the Beloved.

I read
the invocation under the title:

"In the name of God, the One, the Incomparable,
the All-Powerful, the All-knowing, the All-Wise."

Who am I
that I should doubt
my own self-worth.

Reality
is not this physical creature,
this animal brain,
which holds
within it the memory
of use and abuse.

My reality
encompasses
this physical body.
bit it goes beyond.

I am spirit
tied to matter
and not matter alone.

I wrote this in 147 B.E. The original title was "Overcoming Self"; however, I could have just as easily renamed it "Overcoming Ego" or "Overcoming the Evil Whisper".
