Silent Enemy

It stalks you in the dead of night
It follows you throughout your day
It creeps into the corners of your mind
And sulks if you try to ignore it.
Whenever you are challenged
It rears its ferocious head
And laughs like a jackal
When you get stuck in the mire
Of quicksand that threatens to engulf you.
Doubt is the ghost of resistance.

This contest is only for short stories (max 300 words) and poems (max 10 lines)—these max counts are for the June 2019 round only. Individual story chapters will not be accepted for this contest. If you use form poetry, then please include the name of the form with your entry.
