Being Retired now, I thought that it was time for a new name to this Blog

Talk about perks, my career had one of the best I can think of! I traveled in the course of business, delivering classes for my employer. I was a Senior Training Specialist for Motorola Solutions, and taught classes on a wide variety of subjects centered around 2-way radio communications. I knew that when the time arrived that I would retire, and I have. I've always said that if you can't stand the heat in the kitchen, get out! I can't handle the heat anymore. I was qualified to deliver approximately 32 different classes, but about half of those were 'Legacy' classes, and were not in demand anymore. My students were technicians, those who maintained, programmed, calibrated, and repaired large 2-way radio systems. Some of these systems are statewide, and use TCP-IP networking to allow sites to communicate with others. Some are small, traditional type radio sites. The size doesn't matter, in each case the systems must be kept operational at all times, since many of them are Public Safety Systems. So I traveled, sometimes frequently, 3-4 weeks in a row.... where have I been?

Some of the places I've been (I can't list them all here, the list would be too long) are pretty interesting.

         1. Hawaii - Four times, Oahu, Maui (twice), and the Big Island
         2. BangkokThailand, twice
         3. Frankfurt Germany, twice
         4. Algiers, Algeria
         5. Melbourne Australia
         6. Bismarck North Dakota, Summer & Winter
         7. Los Angeles, Too many times to count
         8. Washington DC, Too many times to count
         9. Seattle three or four times
         10. Texas, all over the state
         11. Florida, all over the state
         12. New Mexico, HOME! Several times

Paying Things Forward

In my life, people have helped me in one way or another. I'm sure it's happened to most anyone not born with a Silver Spoon in their mouth (Our Governor Pritzker for example). I realize I titled this Paying Things Forward, but in my opinion, I'm still paying things back from long ago.

We went to Jewel-Osco this afternoon to look for a Capon for dinner Thursday. They had Capons, but also had pies, Pumpkin and Fruit, Buy One, Get One Free. I picked up a Strawberry Rhubarb Pie, and a Pumpkin Pie. The thing is, we don't need two pies, she's not a big fan of Pumpkin pies, so I asked a lady checking out near me if she would like a free Pumpkin Pie. She gladly took it off my hands. I had an epiphany about things, and asked loudly, "Would anyone like a free Pumpkin Pie, or Fruit Pie?" Two other hands went up (one was a Cashier!), so I asked which pie they wanted. Both said Pumpkin, so I scanned my pie two more times. There was an employee nearby, I made sure he knew what I was doing. I went back and grabbed two more pies and handed them to those who had raised their hands. As I handed the Cashier her pie, she asked why I was doing this.... I said "You have them advertised as Buy One, Get One Free, so I'm really buying two pies, huh!"

Other than that, it's been a slow day here. The good excellent news is, my back pain is gone! It's only been 3-4 days, but to live without taking Tylenol twice a day is wonderful. Now to just keep it going. I can crawl into bed now, instead of sitting on the edge and sort of falling to one side and lying down from there. Plus, it's so easy to roll over too, Wow! Hard to believe. This back pain started with my fall on the escalator in LAX, TWO years ago. Cortisone shots took care of it for a while, those soon faded though and had less and less effect, and the relief didn't last near as long. As my best friend said, "Learn & know what your limits are, and be careful to make sure you don't exceed those limits. Ahh, life is good, and time does go on.
