| Birthday Bastion 2025 September 2: Prompt 2: The difference with last year’s celebrations is the implementation of Artificial Intelligence. AI/ChatGPT: A pest or a blessing for writers? Give us your thoughts. I am not a fan. I mean it can be interesting and helpful once you have generated your own work. I know some people who even use it to help them work through story ideas, but I would still be careful. I know Autocrit.com has an option of a story analyzer to help guide you through your story. It can even do a reverse outline. I like the concept of that. So I guess it is not all bad. Still thoughts of Skynet linger. One must always be conscious and aware of what you are doing and why. Never act mindlessly or let it take over. Giving away control is never a good idea. Even Grammarly is not always correct. I would be willing to see what could be done. Keeping an open mind. My word count is only at 134 and apparently I need more.... like 350 sooooooo.... one needs to remember to READ the fine print when one is joining up.  I read a few other writer's ideas and really found Robert's comments really hit home. I agree with his idea that AI is like any other tool. It can be used for good or for bad - it all depends on the user. I do think AI can be helpful for people with accessibility issues. Speech to Text software has improved over the years. I remember trying one program and finding the delay drove me crazy - imagine the poor ADHD kid trying to use it. We had to cover the monitor while we worked. I found pacing and not looking at the screen also helped. But now.... you can use the technology to type a text. Thought watch spellcheck. That sucker can mess with your words.... partiularly if you swear. [now how many of you just went to checkg that out?] I have a friend who has named her ChatGPT stuff - one is Alfred and the other is Bixley. She finds asking these things questions cuts down a lot of her research time. Even though I don't have a Chatgpt account, I find myself asking her to look up something. I now have a whopping 362 words. |
It's WDC - 25th Birthday Blog / Scavenger Hunt September 2nd There are multiple contests celebrating WDC's 25th year. Name at least five of them and participate in one of them. Post your answers in a blog entry telling us what motivated you to do that contest. ( * no one sentence responses allowed) Do you like doing contests in general. What's your favorite one during the year? I love this time of year. This whole month is full of contests and activities. I signed up for this blogging scavenger hunt "It's WDC- 25th Birthday" early and am enjoying it so far.... I do appreciate that today is not as challenging as yesterday. I don't know if I could handle the daily hard challenges. I will admit I did have fun searching yesterday and I learned a few new things. That's always a bonus.Aside from this contest, I signed up early for the Masquerade Party "Wdc 25th Birthday Masquerade Party" . I am incognito as Joan Watson from the TV show Elementary. So far I have posted twice on the first day. " and ". I like to tell my own story interwoven throughout the party itself... it's crazy overwhelming because you have to stay on top of the forum and read EVERYTHING! I am committed to sticking right to the end this year. It runs for two weeks.I also signed on to the "Blog Week Birthday Bastion 2025" . I wrote my blog yesterday and forgot to post it until this morning.I entered the Writer's Cramp yesterday with "September 1 Entry - WDC 2050" . I expect I will try to enter a few more times as the week progresses. The gift point prizes are higher than they usually are for this week only. I may get lucky, and if not, I will have fun with the prompts. I am also thinking of doing the "Jane Austen Writing Contest 250 Years" . I have a month to work on this one. A new contest is the "Golden Apples Writing Contest Forum" . It is new to Writing.com. I may check it out as well. The prompt is writing a story with apples... I had thought to write something for "Journey Through Genres: Official Contest" but I signed up as a judge for this back in July. Don't think I am allowed to enter something I judging. Not to worry. I am a huge fan of Writing.com contests and challenges. I usually sign up for the "I Write in 2025" contests each year - sadly, this year's challenge is drawing to a close. It keeps me on my toes and writing every week. I have also signed on to "The Bradbury" this year. The challenge is to write 52 short stories in 52 weeks. I am behind, but not too far. Another contest I love it "The Contest Challenge" which requires me to enter a contest from a select group each month. Weird thing is, this month it is all contests I don't see in Party Central. Not sure why that is, but hey, I will do one of those as well. Do I have a favourite? I love them all. If I could I would try them all, but I know my time is not infinite, so I will go with the Masquerade Party and this blogging scavenger hunt because Witchy Woman   is one of my favourite people. My all time favourite is virtual traveling with Blog City! That was a blast.... and so much cheaper than actually traveling. Time to get on with other contests now.... |
