I do not know quite what happened or when , but my hubby and I now qualify for seniors' discounts at some venues. This creates a quandary; in order to save money, but not face, we have to admit to our age. HMMMM..... We definitely do not consider ourselves to be old. In this day and age ,when people as a whole are living longer and healthier lives why are 'young seniors', those in their fifties, like moi, considered 'old'?? It's so true that age is just a perception! "Maturity" is very objective/subjective, and I object! Whew, a few years have skittered by since I composed this biography block. Those "fifties" are in the rear view mirror and they are distant, fond memories. Oh, I do not plan to stop writing any time soon.
Didn't ICE find the illegal aliens who had secretly landed in our trailer parks and ICE shipped them to an El Salvadorian prison? I thought many of the trailer park inhabitants who resisted will be vacationing at the prison, er renamed Cultural Exchange Theme Park, soon?
When the toe heels it may be time for specially fitted shoes. Broken bones, no matter how small, can create or exacerbate other health issues as one ages.
Witchy Woman Yes, I have family nearby. The lake is also across the road. Water is kinda important, eh? A spoonful of coffee grounds just isn't the same without it. Thanks for commiserating with me.
I'm so sorry to hear you're having such a terrible week. I've gone through the float valve thing at my old house in Maine, it felt like forever before they got it replaced. I bought gallons of water to keep my coffee supply steady. I refilled empty jugs for the toilet from the lake. We were lucky it happened in the summer because bathing was at the lake. I can't imagine doing it in the fall with the temperatures dropping. I never asked if your family lives nearby? Hopefully, you can take care of the essentials there.
Very nicely written. I am a big communicator and if more people would put forth a better effort, it would be a better place. Little acts of kindness truly goes a long way. You have identified it well. I can feel your sincerity coming through your writing. I would like to see more of the younger crowd helping or being involved with the older folks. I know my day goes better when someone has said hi or gives a waves.
I don't care for dark British/Dutch humor. Dislike Monty Python as well. Give me a bittersweet French or Japanese movie or a sad Portuguese song. I'm more introspective.
You were very fortunate. I never really fell into anyone's arms.
I need to reassess my needs. My 'romantic' efforts in Thailand had limited success.
PROMPT : Motivational Monday! Sir Arthur Conan Doyle , born on this day in 1859, once said, "Any truth is better than indefinite doubt. " How do you relate to this? I suppose some people choose to lie to themselves, or ignore stark reality. Perhaps they fear the unknown and would rather not face it head on. If they deny it, ignore it, refuse to accept it, it cannot harm them. Pretending keeps them safe? This seems to be true of health matters. Personally, I'd want to know about any health concerns. Knowing what to expect, knowing what treatment options exist, being aware of steps to attempt, and accepting the course of an illness make perfect sense to me. I would never give up, or admit defeat without first trying to battle a disease. I'd want hard truths.
May 21st Prompt: Creation Weekend! Tell us how the party went... Yikes, remember the sweet sixteen shindig I envisioned? It was a disaster. It crashed, and spluttered... Okay, first of all the big top, the party tent, collapsed .Apparently, it was not rated to handle a snow load. That was quite a surprise, as was the snowstorm itself. Flurries are not expected to arrive May 8th. Actually, the canvas was flimsy. People in formal attire do not like pushing and clawing their way free from the weight of a limp, floundering tent. The band I hired was a no show. They got lost, and wandered aimlessly along miles and miles of deserted back roads, sliding in slippery slush. Unfortunately, they relied upon a faulty GPS. Huh, city folk... So, I had to scramble and find a substitute... A father and son team of D.J.s graciously agreed to provide our dancing tunes. It was a little difficult to hear them since they dropped one of their speakers in the snow, and their amplifier never did warm up. All in all, the dancing carried on for a full twenty minutes before the crash. That was just enough time for a brief brawl and dust-up. Dress clothes do not come with manners, and there had been a misunderstanding. Some people just cannot accept a compliment. Sigh, the party favours, the food and the beautiful birthday cake didn't survive the wet weight of the crumpled canvas. There was to be no taste whatsoever. Sydney , you didn't miss a thing.
May 20th Prompt: a two-fer, or, as you will, a two-parter... Creation Weekend! Plan a party to honour someone who won't be there... Oooh, a make-believe party? Okay, I suppose I can pull this off... Well, my eldest granddaughter recently hit a big milestone. She turned sixteen. She has also left her temporary career as a babysitter to join the "real" work force. Too soon, she learned this means missing trips, some special occasions, spontaneous excursions, and the like. She's made a commitment to her new boss. Working has its sacrifices. She also is a casual dresser, no girly-girl attire. Hmm, since she'll be busy, I'll plan something she would never expect, or attend, a sweet sixteen extravaganza. Heck, I can't recall anyone in our family having such a "to do." Of course, all guests will be required to deck themselves in formal wear, tuxedos and gowns. There will be glitz and glamour. I envision dancing in a large tent erected in the backyard. The fairy lights will be twinkling. I will hire a band. Live music will be magical. Why not have a caterer with a punch bowl? Oo-la-la... Posh affairs like this are unheard of in our community. What fun we'll have toasting Miss Sydney.
