Sorry about your dog's passing.
I can see your husband's point, which corresponds to mine with the passing of my cat. I guess you could get another dog if, ahead of time, you could guarantee a family member or a friend to take the dog, when and if you can't care for it.
In my case, anyone I know who lives around has a dog and no one wants a cat. In a dog's case, I would probably get luckier.

JACE Thanks for commenting on my blog. You’re right, we’re quite lost, just the two of us without a four-legged companion. I’m sure we’ll find the right one for us soon.
What about making provisions for someone taking the dog should something happen to both of you? It seems sad to not share the love you obviously have for your pet.
I vaguely remember Hopalong but really remember Bonanza, Rifleman and Gunsmoke more. My parents were huge western fans they used to read Zane Grey, Louis L'Amour, Elmer Kelton and Larry McMurty.
That was nicely done, Sue. I've done a couple of mazes. The last one I did in 2019 caused me to have a panic attack. Thank goodness my granddaughter was old enough to get me help.
Let's have some fun with random words: cat, lecture, snarl, residences, show, stain, purr, and gold.
As I recuperate from my hip surgery I’ve been walking with two crutches for several weeks. My walk has consisted of going around our very small 600 metre block. I pass several residences on my journey. Mrs Ball lives in one of the houses and she has a cat that sits on her front porch. My dog always accompanies me on my walk to visit Mrs Ball’s cat and they eye each other up. The cat gives a snarl and a show of her sharp, white teeth. Lucy listens to my lecture about cats. I explain it would be a stain on her as yet unsullied character if she chased and caught MBC, and I tell her she’s as good as gold when she ignores the cat. I don’t know the name of Mrs Ball’s cat, but she did come over to me one day when I called to her, “come here, Puss Puss.’ So that could be her name. I didn’t have the dog with me and even heard her give a gentle purr as if to say, thank you.
