Sorry about your dog's passing.
I can see your husband's point, which corresponds to mine with the passing of my cat. I guess you could get another dog if, ahead of time, you could guarantee a family member or a friend to take the dog, when and if you can't care for it.
In my case, anyone I know who lives around has a dog and no one wants a cat. In a dog's case, I would probably get luckier.

JACE Thanks for commenting on my blog. You’re right, we’re quite lost, just the two of us without a four-legged companion. I’m sure we’ll find the right one for us soon.
What about making provisions for someone taking the dog should something happen to both of you? It seems sad to not share the love you obviously have for your pet.
I vaguely remember Hopalong but really remember Bonanza, Rifleman and Gunsmoke more. My parents were huge western fans they used to read Zane Grey, Louis L'Amour, Elmer Kelton and Larry McMurty.
That was nicely done, Sue. I've done a couple of mazes. The last one I did in 2019 caused me to have a panic attack. Thank goodness my granddaughter was old enough to get me help.
Prompt: What does it mean to have it all? Write about this in your Blog entry today.
I don’t think it’s possible to have it all and I don’t think having lots of money has anything to do with achieving that.
When I lived in England I had my family. My husband, Mum dad, and brothers and their wives. I probably thought I had it all then.
But we left the country and emigrated to Australia, there we made a life for ourselves with our three children. Was it then I had it all? No, because the rest of my family were on the other side of the world.
But I was satisfied enough to think I had all that really mattered.
But as the years have passed, there have been rifts between family members, divorces, children’s allegiances tested and the fabric of family has been torn.
But my husband and I are still together after sixty years of marriage and we’re both in reasonable health and that is more than many people have.
So do we have it all now? Probably not, but this will have to do.
