Toe in the Water

A tentative blog to test the temperature.

Ten years ago I was writing several blogs on various subjects - F1 motor racing, Music, Classic Cars, Great Romances and, most crushingly, a personal journal that included my thoughts on America, memories of England and Africa, opinion, humour, writing and anything else that occurred. It all became too much (I was attempting to update the journal every day) and I collapsed, exhausted and thoroughly disillusioned in the end.

So this blog is indeed a Toe in the Water, a place to document my thoughts in and on WdC but with a determination not to get sucked into the blog whirlpool ever again. Here's hoping.

My first thought was that the Kubelwagen was a food truck dispensing some tasty iced bun called a Kubel. Maybe I was thinking of a stroopwafel. But that's Dutch. I would probably starve in Germany.

I doubt it's age-related. I went through a period of aggressive writing, followed by a long stretch of nothingness in my brain. It evolved into a story or poem here and there, and then came back with some consistency.

For me, "the world is my oyster" interfered with the doing. I found narrowing down what I wanted to focus on (conciseness, concreteness) gave me the ability to start doing again.

I think you're on to something, TJ says, "keep on keeping on!"

. It seems reasonable to somehow get back into the habit and the only way to do that is to keep writing.

I'm in the same rut and sometimes wonder if I've lost my imagination. But even trying to write about past events, I find myself dried up.

I don't think it's age, or lack of imagination (I can still tell a hell of a yarn), it's habit. Yes, habit; I became discouaged from constant interuptions and lack of time to write, and I think it became a habit to draw a blank anytime I sit down to write.

So, writing anything is the first step in breaking that habit. Keep it going, and remember, it's one step at a time.

I agree, and I've stopped watching videos because of mispronunciations; it drives me bonkers. I find it's less intelligence and more ignorance!

Yeah, the way people are pirating famous and respected people to present views they would never espouse must surely be prevented somehow. With all this going on, how can anyone continue to support the introduction and development of AI? All use of it should be stopped until ways to control it have been demonstrated.

Short Stories

Short Stories

Squeezed out a short story of sorts today. I say that because it’s debatably a story and might really be called a joke. But any port in a storm, they say, and my storm of inability to write short stories has lasted long enough for me to use this port.

My latest theory regarding the drought is that I’ve forgotten how to write the darn things. Looking back, I seem to have had no problem in previous years. But now I haven’t a clue of where to start. Maybe it’s old age catching up with me and I’ve used up my entire stock of tales to tell.

I guess time will tell.
