Toe in the Water

A tentative blog to test the temperature.

Ten years ago I was writing several blogs on various subjects - F1 motor racing, Music, Classic Cars, Great Romances and, most crushingly, a personal journal that included my thoughts on America, memories of England and Africa, opinion, humour, writing and anything else that occurred. It all became too much (I was attempting to update the journal every day) and I collapsed, exhausted and thoroughly disillusioned in the end.

So this blog is indeed a Toe in the Water, a place to document my thoughts in and on WdC but with a determination not to get sucked into the blog whirlpool ever again. Here's hoping.

I agree, and I've stopped watching videos because of mispronunciations; it drives me bonkers. I find it's less intelligence and more ignorance!

Yeah, the way people are pirating famous and respected people to present views they would never espouse must surely be prevented somehow. With all this going on, how can anyone continue to support the introduction and development of AI? All use of it should be stopped until ways to control it have been demonstrated.

AI videos drive me crazy as well. The pronunciation is just the tip of the iceberg: do you realize that people are taking well-known professors, preachers, even musical artists, basically stealing their voices, generating speeches that resemble things they would say, and creating whole channels disseminating this fictional slop? It's absolutely horrifying. I felt sick the other day when I noticed a video of "Imagine Dragons and Sia" with a fake song called Unbreakable Wings. It's disrespectful to the artists (professors, etc.) because I'm pretty sure the people behind these fakes are making money off of the videos. It needs to be stopped, but I have no idea how.

Thanks for allowing me a spot to rant... It's been bugging me.

That was interesting. I dont do anything with ai except maybe using spellcheck! My pet peave is hearing "professional" people using improper English. I dont always use it right..but im not a professional either.

I have, for years, wanted to write a semi-fictional story, or even a series, about three past pets and their antics. At the time, these three continued to entertain us, and like you, I put off the story because it had not fully developed yet. After they passed, it was too painful to write, and in time the idea faded. Thank you for reminding me, perhaps now would be a great time for me to relive those wonderful years and share their story.

Contemplating Infinity

It’s not the limitless expanse of the universe that makes us aware of our insignificance. It’s the vast, incomprehensible number of all the people who have ever lived and those who now inhabit the planet Earth. Each of us is a single grain of sand on a beach that goes on forever. And our only hope for being noticed amongst the myriads of our fellow creatures is that some day we might be driven by the wind from the beach to the sea and so to the depths where we might fall into the mouth of some oyster that then gets irritated enough to begin covering us with a coating of some smooth substance that hardens and eventually makes us into a pearl.

Even then we have to depend on the chance of being found and included in a cosmic string of pearls to grace some infinite neck. Kinda puts us into perspective, doesn’t it?
