There was no light around Shinji when his eyes opened. Just a rather soft, cramped space with wet walls and not enough space for him to even stand up. Still, as he lay here, the boy felt oddly content, more content than he had ever felt before. There was an aura being given off that was just so...peaceful.
"Where am I?" he wondered aloud. No reply came, and without any light, he was left to wonder where Lilith/Rei had taken him. Was he dead? Was he sent to another plane of existence? The infinite amount of possibilities that surrounded his new location were staggering. Still, even as he lay in the dark, featureless abyss, he felt content. He did not feel alone either, another oddity considering that there wasn't enough room in this pit to fit a TV, much less another person. So why was this place so pleasing?
Reaching out to touch the wall in front of him, Shinji noticed that it felt soft, almost as if it were made from flesh. The wetness fell onto his hand, but it wasn't painful, yet was too thick to be mere water. The substance seemed to be familiar though, even if it wasn't readily apparent.
If only he had some light, he could find out exactly where he was, and end the confusion. He had to know, yet somewhere, he was sure that he already knew the answer.
Shinji's philosophizing over he predicament came to sudden end as the area around him rumbled and gurgled with an easily recognizable sound. As he was shaken up within the tiny surroundings, it finally came to him why he had felt so secure, so warm, despite having no idea where he had been. He had fantasized about it, along with a myraid of other fantasies, for so many nights. All the times he had been shunned, rejected, or isolated, he would retreat into his room and think of a fantasy like this one, one where he was secure and warm. But...it was absurd. The whole notion was absurd.
Or at least it was until Lilith had made it so. Shinji finally realized exactly where he had ended up, where he had been taken by his own wishes.
"I'm in a stomach?!" he yelled aloud.
"Of course, don't you remember?" a warm voice replied to him.
