“We’re headed off to our art class next. Hopefully that should give you a nice little break after all the stuff you’ve had to go through during this period,” said Zen. That sounded just fine to you. You are a pretty talented artist, but you had thought you were in pretty good shape too. One of the reasons you had been selected to go to this school instead of someone else was because you were one of the top students in the area, in the nation actually. Technically, you were smart enough to be in college already but your parents wanted you to stick around people your own age. It was kind of funny that they did not care about keeping you around people your own size.
As Zen walked to the art class you were able to get your first good look at the interior of the school. Things looked pretty similar to a less crowded version of your own school. It was not like your school was overcrowded or anything, but it seemed like there could not be more than 500 anthros going to this school while your high school had about three times that number of students.
You noticed that just about everybody was staring at you as Zen walked past them. It looked like you might have been right about the carnivores and herbivores. All of the carnivores and most of the omnivores would offer you a friendly smile or at the very least they did not look like they wished you any harm. The herbivores were a completely different story. They made you feel uncomfortable and happy that you had Zen as a protector.
It did not take too long to reach the art room. The teacher was a colorful parrot that seemed to have put up a fairly large and well drawn “Welcome Human” sign before you arrived. You could have sworn that parrots were herbivores, but it might just be that not all of them are totally against you just like you are bound to meet a carnivore or two that does not like you. “Ah, welcome students and a big welcome to you my first human student. I am Mrs. Pare. This is the first class of the year and I would like to see where all of your skill levels are at. So, today I would like you to create whatever you like and I will look over whatever you done in the last fifteen minutes of class,” she said in a pretty flamboyant manner. It did not seem like Mrs. Pare had any room in her for hate. That might explain why she did not dislike you.
You still had to find a workstation though. Everything in this room was meant for people at least three times your size. “Mr. Fen, I have a workstation already set up for your human partner next to the window.”
“Thank you Mrs. Pare, I’ll take the human right over,” Zen said. Then he looked over at you and said, “It’s nice of her to remember I like to work next to the window. That should make things easier on us in case somebody decides to try something like Corneil did.”
“That sounds good,” you said. Then Zen dropped you off at a workstation with human sized supplies. It looked like you had all new equipment since you were the only human here. Zen quickly went to work on something right next to you and it soon became apparent to you he was only as good at art as the average art student back at your high school. It was nice to know all anthros weren’t incredibly good at everything. You had to decide what to draw yourself though. Then you looked at Zen and he looked like just as good a subject as any. Felines tended to look good in art in no matter what position they were in and Zen was no exception.
You did not have a lot of time to get your little painting done, but you were still proud of it. Zen looked at what you had drawn and then he looked back at what he had drawn. If you did not know any better you would have to say he looked a little embarrassed. “Wow, you’re good, I mean really good. And that is me, isn’t it?” Zen asked.
“Yeah, it’s you. And thanks for the compliment. I was kind of hoping I would be good at something in this school,” you said. Zen looked liked he was about to open his mouth to say something when Mrs. Pare walked over to your workstation.
