Felix contemplated whether he should tell Ted about him being able to use magic or not. "He's my friend and he's told me so much already. But if I can use magic what does that mean?" Felix wondered, "Does it mean I'm something more than human? I'm a some kind of monster? I'm going to have to ask him more about magic then I can decided whether to tell him the truth or not, depending on the answers."
Once another guard past by, Felix asked, "Could you tell me more about magic?"
"I know a few things about magic. What do you want to know?" Ted asked staying quieter now that magic was the subject of their conversation. If one of the guards were to over hear, it wouldn't be good for either of them.
"How does one use magic?" Felix questioned, "Do they need to say the words for a spell to work?"
"No, those are only basic and starter magic. The magical language is meant to get people to get a feel for magic so that they can discover their greater powers within. The fact that this fairy is using such magic is either because she's too weak to do otherwise or she is a beginner. Either way, size change is natural to Felaryan fairies and they can do it at either age. It's just has a longer duration for older fairies and there are limits, but they are far too complicated to get into," Ted replied.
"Don't you think I should know to protect myself?" Felix pointed out.
"Alright, magic gets stronger the more a person uses and practices it as well as the older they get. However, magic still zaps power so theirs a limit to how much can be used at one time," Ted explained, "Now, all magical creatures have special and natural spells they are born with, such as a dragon's fire or a Felaryan Fairy's size change. These abilities are strong to begin with, but still need to be train to become more powerful. The weaker the fairy is with size changing, its age is a factor as well, the less damage it can do. The duration of the spell would be shorter, very large creatures wouldn't be able to shrink, the fairy wouldn't be able to grow itself as large as an expert, and other limits such as that."
"So hopefully, the fairy is a novice," Felix muttered. Felix then asked Ted, "Can magic be used by use saying a spell?"
"No, magic has to be within a person's blood to do so. Plus, in order to do certain spells only a specific creature can do, one must have some of its blood in his or her blood," Ted informed Felix.
"Can humans use magic?" Felix questioned.
"Yes, but it doesn't come natural. Long ago, people mated with magical creatures. This gave the child the use of magic. Even if that child were to marry a human and all the children after that were to marry humans, the magic would still be passed on in their blood, along with specific species magic. That family bloodline would continue to have magic blood till the bloodline stopped," Ted explained, "There are other means of gain magic but those are less common."
"So, I might not be human," Felix whispered a little louder in a panicked and horrified voice.
"What?" Ted asked in confusion.
"I... I used magic! I might not be human," Felix said in the same tone.
"Keep quiet about something like that," Ted tried to calm his friend down, "Even if that's how your bloodline gained magic, it could have been centuries ago, making you human. Besides, you don't even know if that's how you obtained magic."
Luckily Felix calmed down a little, but he was still a little shaky as he scrubbed the floors. "How do you know you can use magic?" Ted questioned.
"I repeated a spell that the fairy used and it worked," Felix explained.
"So, it wasn't the oats after all. It was the words you muttered," Ted realized, remembering Felix was the only one not affected.
"Is that a specific spell?" Felix questioned.
"No, it's not," Ted replied, "Do you realize that if you learn to hone your magic we could...escape?" Ted said the last word extremely quietly.
"How do I learn?" Felix asked.
"Do you think you can make friends with the fairy? Maybe she'll help," Ted suggested.
"I thought you said she was dangerous and only saw humans as food," Felix asked.
"Well, maybe she's too young to have had a human yet. Besides, she's intelligent, she might be able to reason that you're her only hope of escaping," Ted said.
"So, I should promise her a way to escape, but not let her escape with us when the time is, right?" Felix asked.
"She's too dangerous to be trusted. She could easily turn on us once her wings grow back if we help her escape. She is a Felaryan after all. If you truly befriend her then maybe its possible, but she could fake that as well," Ted explained.
