1. When he goes to leave Alola, an Ultra Wormhole appears, and the tank falls out. Ash's ship leaves too soon for him to contact anyone, since Rotom Dex isn't with him. Ash's ship docks at Vermillion City, less than a week before Professor Ceries opens his lab (since it took a while for everyone but Professor Ceries to find out about Gengar, it couldn't have been long. He comes across Riolu's egg and Gengar, obtaining them both. Ash meets the Ceries family, finds out about Yamper being from a region called Galar, and decides to go there next (while secretly getting Chloe). Because of this, he doesn't befriend Goh at the time and become a research assistant. He must still obtain his other Journeys Pokémon.
2. Ash finds it before he, Chloe, and Dawn leave Galar after he becomes Monarch. Instead of Aim to be a Pokémon Master, Ash goes to Paldea.
3. Two years before Ash becomes a trainer in canon, those in charge of Pokémon League regulations change the laws so that would be trainers must be 16 to get their licenses; those who are already trainers are exempt. Upon reaching September after hitting 10, any prospective trainers must go to trainer's school until graduating at the end of May of the year they turn 16. The school will be in Alola, with students from Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos, and Alola making up the classes. Other regions have their own schools. Trainers wanting to specialize in a specific type that isn't Fire, Water, or Grass will have a separate class lead by a Gym Leader of that type at their gyms.
Every year, trainers of the school will be cut, depending on how well they do (the cut trainers can take other classes in smaller schools in their regions), until, on the final year, there are only 28. The top 21 get a traditional starter from the regions and a Pokédex, while the others get a more common Pokémon from one of the regions (one from each). Serena was in class with Ash the whole time, and helped him with his studying, and, with her support, he didn't become arrogant.
The starters of graduating trainers are random, but any wanting to specialize in a fire, water, or grass type will be given one. Ash, Leaf, Gary, Paul, Lillie, Lana, Mallow, Shauna, and any player characters from the Gen 2-6 games must be in the class of the final year. Kiawe graduated the previous year. Misty, who is two years older than Ash in the Electric Tale of Pikachu, was just passed the cutoff for having to go to trainer's school. Ash gets Froakie (he gets Pikachu in Viridian Forest), and Serena gets Fennekin. None of Ash's canon Pokémon, except his Froakie are given to students.
Sometime, in the final year, Ash finds the tank. The classes are taught by Gym Leaders for the first five years, a Champion the first seven months of the final year, and a professor in the last two. Gym Leader teachers and the Champion teacher are on vacation, with a fully paid hotel room while a teacher (since the regions with Gyms have more than eight Gyms, that's not a problem). All Gym Leaders, except Tate and Liza, were, like Misty, just old enough to not need classes. All important or potentially world ending events of the anime have been pushed back.
