As he thought about how he could test out the Swap Wand, Link began to wonder if he had to choose another living target. If this wand was as powerful as the knowledge he had been given about it said, then it should be possible for him to swap with inanimate objects as well; in theory, at least.
He had to admit, he was rather curious to find out if it was even possible. All he needed was something inanimate to swap with.
The first thing that came to mind, was his sword. Although he was no longer in possession of the Master Sword, his current blade was about as good as a sword could be, without being the Master Sword.
Drawing it from the scabbard, Link looked closely at the sword. As he looked at his reflection on the well-polished surface, he was reminded of a phrase that his combat instructor used to say: "One must wield a sword with such skill, so that the enemy will think you are one with it."
Well; with this wand, he now had the chance to actually live up to that phrase and BECOME his sword!
As he carefully placed the sword on the ground in front of him, Link began to think about what kind of swaps he could make with it.
Any mental swaps were out of the question. Since the sword was just a length of sharpened steel, it didn't have any mental traits to swap.
Swapping bodies didn't seem like a good idea either. Although it might transfer his mind into his trusty blade, he would likely be unable to move, whereas his real body would be left mindless and unmoveable as well, since there would be no mind to steer it.
He supposed that a clothes-swap might work... that is, if one could refer to a scabbard as being the 'clothes' of a sword.
He dismissed that idea as well. Even though he wasn't sure about how it would work, the thought of putting clothes on a sword was just ridiculous to him.
Then there was the option of swapping lives with his sword.
This certainly seemed like the best option to Link; if he got to experience what it would be like to be a sword first-hand, perhaps that would aid him in any future battles that he might have, by giving him new ideas for combat techniques and swordplay.
And, although he had no idea how a sword would be able to live his life, if the wand was as powerful as he thought, it would be able to find a solution to that problem automatically.
Having made up his mind, Link thought about swapping lives with his sword and waved the Swap Wand.
In an instant, a wave of disorientation washed over Link, nearly causing him to pass out. In spite of the dizzyness, Link did notice how it seemed that the world around him was warping. Then, he suddenly found himself laying on his back and the dizzyness gone.
At first, nothing appeared to have changed; that is, until Link looked down at himself and found that he was completely naked!
Link let out a cry of surprise and tried to cover himself with his hands... only to find that he couldn't move his arms either!
It was then that Link noticed the position that he was laying in; his arms were spread out stiffly on either side of him, (he was still holding the Wand, though), with his just as stiff legs being close together and straight as an arrow. (He could still move his head, though.)
With the way he was laying, it almost looked like he was trying to look like a sword; with his legs being the 'blade', his arms being the 'handguard' and his neck and head being the grip and the pommel, respectively.
It took Link a moment before he realized that that was exactly what was going on! Since he had swapped lives with his own sword, it made sense why he was laying like this, why his limbs were so stiff and why he was now naked. Swords didn't wear clothes, after all.
But, wait... if he was now living the life of his sword, then what happened to his trusty blade? Link looked around before he spotted something standing right in front of him.
The thing that he saw before him certainly had his basic body shape and size; with two arms, two legs, a torso and wearing his clothes, Link at first thought he was looking at himself. That notion was shattered when he looked at the being's head... or rather, where it should have been.
For it was not a head that was between the shoulders of this being; it was the pommel of his sword!
It was much bigger than normal, matching the proportions relative to the size of his own head and wearing his cap as well, but it was definitely the pommel of his sword!
Link stared confused at the being in front of him, until he realized what was going on.
Since it would be impossible for an ordinary, inanimate sword to live the life of a Hylian, reality must have been changed and given the sword a Hylian-esque body to allow it to live Link's life!
Link did notice, however, that the 'head' of the sword-person still had a metallic shine to it, presumably with the rest of it's body.
As Link kept looking at the strange being that his sword had become, it suddenly began to move, it's new arm reaching out towards him.
Link began to freak out when the sword-in-his-life grabbed his neck... only to find that, although the grip was firm, he didn't have any trouble breathing whatsoever.
It was then that he saw that Sword-Link (as he decided to call the being) was about to place him in the scabbard. Though it made sense since he was technically the sword now, it was still a bit unnerving for Link.
But, as it turned out, it was surprisingly pleasant. As his legs and lower body went into the leather scabbard, Link began to feel a sense of comfort, as well as the feeling that this was where he was supposed to be; like it was his home. Link figured that it was probably because he was living the life of his sword that he had those feelings.
With his whole body (exept for his shoulders, arms and head) now inside the scabbard, Link started to lightly sway around as Sword-Link began to move.
As Sword-Link walked, the real Link began to notice something peculiar. When no one else was around, he found that he could move his limbs again. But, as soon as another Hylian or Sword-Link looked at him, his limbs instantly froze up in the sword position again.
Link took that as a good sign, for it probably meant that he would be able to move normally as long as nobody was watching.
The light bouncing suddenly stopped and Link saw that Sword-Link had gone to...
