I wasn’t keen on being scrubbed until I started bleeding, so I gestured to Amanda, who giggled, “That’s right, Pumpkin. You want to stay with your nice big sister Mandy and not that mean old Jessie.”
“My God,” Jessica exclaimed. “You’re going to turn her into such a cream puff!”
“You’re just jealous because I’m Rachel’s favorite,” Amanda countered. “Now, make yourself useful and get to the basement.”
“Whatever,” Jessica sighed.
“Now,” Amanda cooed as she carried me down the hallway, “Let’s get the little princess all cleaned up.” We were barely past the bathroom threshold when my sister waved her hand, and my clothes disappeared. “It's much easier than doing laundry,” Amanda said. When I tried to cover up, Amanda just giggled. “You’re so silly, Rachel; there’s nothing to be embarrassed about; we’re both girls.”
“Maybe you are,” I corrected as my sister sat me on the toilet.
“Now, don’t be grumpy, or I’ll put you down for a nap.” Amanda lightly scolded as she looked through her collection of bubble bath bottles. “Hmmm, lavender or melon?” My sister glanced at me and sighed, “Rachel, stop playing with your hair; you look like you have lice.”
“How do girls live with all this hair?” I demanded as I was lowered into the sweet-smelling bathtub.
“You’ll get used to it,” Amanda promised, “But maybe I can make things a little easier.” With a wave of her hand, my hair began receding into my head, and it was only at my shoulders. I was about to thank my sister when Amanda shook her head. “No, no; you look like Velma,” with another gesture, I was blonde. “Hmmm… a little better, but what if…” My hair became curly, “Now you look like Shirley Temple, definitely an improvement, but…” Amanda kept changing my hair for the next few minutes as if I were a video game avatar. “We’ll have to go with the classic look for now.”
I was glad to have my normal-colored hair back, even if it was long again, when suddenly…
