Pulling back her cloak she strode with confidence toward the group in the open and waited for them to take notice of her. The small figures were sure to have noticed her but they continued their dancing and festivities in a dazzling array of color and skill. Narra was content to wait to show that she respected them. She made sure to look and admire the dancing and the music to show she was enjoying their performances. They would likely turn on her if she didn’t respect their efforts properly, so much of their culture was about showing respect but also avoiding fawning over them. It was a delicate balance, especially when dealing with the more powerful ones.
She had the patience of a huntress, she could wait a long time for them to take notice of her. Every once in a while she would catch one of them gazing at her and she would give them a wink which usually drew laughter from the Fae. The better she amused them, the smoother things were likely to go for her. Finally, a pot-bellied man with a bright green shimmering suit and a big bushy red beard walked up to her as he blew forth smoky figures of dancing with his pipe.
“Enjoying the festivities young lady?” the man stepped beside her and turned to watch the dancing as he continued to talk to her. “What brings you to our part of the woods?”
“I am enjoying the festivities, I have always admired the Fae’s spirit of revelry,” Narra responded. “Alas, I have business that I am taking care of, perhaps you or one of your people might know something about a missing princess.”
“A princess you say, that is indeed a most important mission. I will be sure to ask my people and get the information to you in three days when the party ends.”
“Perhaps I could offer something in exchange for an interruption as my business is very urgent.”
“The young are always in such a rush but far be it from me to hinder the passions of youths but what does the ever serious Narra daughter of Alarra have to offer to an event of mirth and joy?”
It worried her that this person knew exactly who she was and she still didn’t know the name of the man but she was here to get information and she would pay the ferryman’s fee.
