This choice: When you reach the bottom, you notice signs of past activity and follow them. • Go Back... Dropping into the sewers, you pick up signs of activity that may not have been as obvious at first glance. Among the humid floor there were some splotches of water that seemed to resemble footsteps more that dripping water from above. That could only mean that they’ve been through here, and recently at that. Keeping a lot profile, you progress through the waterways, recognizing that this is the perfect underground maze to get anywhere in the city. No wonder it was difficult to track them down, especially if they were using the waterways themselves to get around.
The change was noticeable in the tracks ahead when around the corner there was a lit torch, indicating the small nest of a camp that the goblins were using as their hideaway. Keeping in the shadows, you notice that the goblins were three, examining their haul. They were definitely collecting the parts of people in the city, and from plenty other places as well. Continuing to observe, you notice that they travel light otherwise. Not many clothes if any at all. The goblins were adorning themselves with the parts of other races. It was disgusting, for sure, but this had its uses. You also take note of the weapon they’re using. A small glowing short sword of some kind. It was engraved with runes, meaning any lowlife could make use of it. No wonder they became a bother. They probably stole it or got lucky before going on their theft spree.
A spree that would soon come to an end. You concentrate on using Mage Hand, an ability granted to you by your telekinetic gift, where you grab the torch, and toss it at one of the goblins. Simply putting it out would do nothing since both species had dark vision and there were still more torches anyways. The first goblin helps in shock, surprising the others as they start looking for you while their friend seems to be struggling with the pain. They pull out daggers from a crate, but without any armor, they were nothing more than sitting ducks.
You pull out your own knife, noticing they left behind the short sword. Good. You’d rather they not chop off your limbs with its magic. It might ignore all of your own defenses after all. You wait patiently behind the corner, waiting for the next goblin to get close, before surprising it with a sneak attack, slitting it’s throat, leaving one last goblin, who clearly sees you. However, instead of fighting, it tries to run, not even bothering to deal with you now that it was a one on one.
Considering the threat was the blade and not the goblins per se, you let it go and quickly move yo finish off the screaming one that was suffering from burns on its face. No need for that noise. A quick and easy mission accomplished as you collect the sword, examining the rune. It seems to be a rune for separation. A simple rune, likely for splitting rope or chain, but using it on the living clearly comes with unique effects. You remove the stolen parts from the goblins and begin gathering their collection. Some of the parts clearly didn’t belong to the locals, such as a pair of dragonborn arms.
You decide some extra arms wouldn’t hurt, and they’re slender enough while still having decent strength to them. Must be female arms. You attach them under your own, getting used to the new nerves and muscles your brain must now account for. Picking up the crate is much easier with these arms. This was definitely a good idea.
You’re able to return everyone’s body parts with very little hassle and of course getting a generous payment for acting so quickly and decisively is a nice boon. Once the day is finished, you’re still left with a crate half filled with body parts with no owners. Given that most of them probably belonged to adventurers out there, or monsters, it would be safe to say that returning them might be impossible, if not for having to look for them in the wilds, then because they were dead in some capacity.
Which means, these body parts were all yours to do with as you please…
You also have the short sword which could be extremely useful in your travels. Maybe you could test it out on something out In the wilds. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
