Chapter #5What the heck was that Creature? by: Unknown On this day, Ivar was hunting in the royal forest. He and his hunting party were hunting as usual. So far Ivar had encountered nothing but squirrels. For a typical day of hunting Ivar hasn't been having any luck.
"Dammit! The forest is awfully quiet for today. After searching for a few hours we ought to have found something by now!"
"Sire, you spent a majority of the morning trying to kill your son, Edward. Your daughter Emma then threatened to slit your throat the next time you laid a hand on her younger twin. On top of that you had to order some of the female guards you hired to take Isabelle to her room so she wouldn't assault some merchant. Do I need to mention that Anders almost lit the stable on fire." the huntsman with Ivar said.
"I get your point, Joshua. If you speak to me like that again I will personally rip out your tongue."
"Understood sire."
"Good. Hopefully we can find something. The sooner we can get a few deer or something the better."
After walking for a few moments Ivar saw some bushes rustle.
"Finally! Now to catch whatever lurks behind those bushes!"
Before Ivar could ready his bow, whatever was hiding in the bushes decided to attack. The assailant was some sort of weird creature. Before Ivar could get a glance at it the creature quickly bites Ivar's hand. The creature had moved with such amazing speed that Ivar couldn't defend himself. Just as fast the creature had made itself known it darted off towards the west. The most disturbing thing though that the creature had an evil cackle.
"What the hell was that thing! I had never seen anything like it! Looks like we got a pest to... Awgh!"
Ivar starts doubling over in pain. He then passes out.
"Darn it! The king's been poisoned!" One huntsman said.
"I don't think that's the case, Jerome. It looks like he has some sort of disease."
"Easy for you to say, Josh. The king looks like he's in some sort of delirium. Maybe if he dies one of us could become king. All one of us would have to do is marry one of his daughters."
"Are you nuts! Ivar would pluck out our eyes, chop off our crotches, or have Janus turn us into animals. Just last week Simon was turned into a cat."
"You have a point, yet I just wish he would of sent a search party for Rilian. He might have united the kingdom, but his corruption is slowly destroying the very kingdom that he unified."
Before Joshua could answer another huntsman pierces Jerome through the chest with his sword.
"How dare you speak of such treason. Die you foul mouthed gossip. No one will miss you."
"Gerald! Why did you kill him?"
"I was just doing my job. A job that you should have done. Instead you entertained the words of a traitor. That is also unforgivable. However, I decided to spare your life. I cannot carry King Ivar back to the wizard on my own. His belongings and kingly figure are too much for one man to carry. If it was just him I should be fine. Now grab his gear and meet me in the medical bay in the castle.
Dang, Gerald didn't really have to do that. I would of talked some common sense into Jerome, but alas. The king is now ill with a disease from a creature that no one has seen before. Hopefully we can cure the king. With Rilian still missing none of Ivar's male heirs being acceptable substitutes. Isabelle is too much of a pervert to rule, but Emma could pull it off. But such thoughts are not to be spoken aloud.
Gerald and Joshua take Ivar back to the castle. They immediately have Janus give medical aid. It wasn't until three hours later.
"He's waking up! Sire, do you remember what the creature looked like?"
Ivar mumbles a few incoherent words. "I... I think I may remember. The creature was quite large. It was definitely an anthro. I believe the sun was setting when it attacked."
"Sire, what you described is none other than a werebeast. Werebeasts are cursed to transform each night to transform into a beast. However, the transformation isn't always stable. Was it a werewolf or some other werebeast? Tell me sire." Janus said as he held his wand up to his king.
"You threaten to kill me without proving that I was attacked by a werewolf or whatever that thing was. Yet somehow he seemed familiar. I can't put my finger on it, but whoever that beast was I'm going to kill him! I don't even care if he's a trusted ally or possibly my lost son Rilian. I will have that monster's head on a silver platter." Ivar growled.
"Sorry milord. It's just that we have to take precautions. If we can't cure you than we will have no choice, but to kill you if you turn into a werewolf or any other kind of werebeast. If you don't become a lycanthrope we'll have to study you to see what affects that creature's bite has on you."
Ivar ponders it over for a moment. "Fine, but let me know if you find something on that creature."
"Will do milord."
Meanwhile, on the outskirts of the city a man and woman meet under the moonlight.
"Did you do the job, darling?" The woman asked.
"I did as you instructed me. Now when can I go free?"
"Not yet my love. Remember that you are my prisoner until you accept my hand in holy matrimony. Also we must see that Ivar suffers. Soon he'll look like what he is on the inside... a beast beyond reason."
"Very well, he must suffer for what he did to me. He must pay for his treason!"
The woman steps into the full ray of the moon's light. The woman is a tall red head. Her red hair blows in the breeze. Her blue eyes give off a cold yet peaceful glimmer. The man's identity remains obscurred by the hood over his head. His attire is that of a noble or knight. The pair gazes off into the night as their plan unfolds. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
