This choice: Athena gets them a snack, as promised.  •  Go Back...
Chapter #18

Temporary absence

Athena scooped the trio up from her chest and shifted over to set them on her pillow.
"OK, guys. Wait right here," she said, getting to her feet, "And I'll come back with some snacks for you. I'll be just a few minutes, so don't go anywhere!"
She hustled from the room, leaving her friends on the wide expanse of her soft white pillow.
Apollo gave a heaving sigh and took several steps away, just pacing uncomfortably.
"Polly?" Trucy called to him from behind. "You OK?"
"I'd be a lot more OK if we weren't the size of ants..." he grumbled. He heard a soft little noise of some kind from Trucy in response and immediately regretted his reply. He turned to see her looking very downcast. "Hey, Trucy...?"
He approached. Phoenix, meanwhile, lowered himself to give his daughter a hug. Apollo waited for them to finish.
"I didn't mean..." he began, "Look, it's not your fault that this happened, Trucy. It was a freak accident."
Trucy didn't look entirely convinced. She slipped out of her father's grasp and stepped over to hug Apollo as well.

"OK," Phoenix said, looking off toward the door, far off in the distance. "Athena's coming back, so we might as well sit tight."
"You actually think we should just go along with her games?" Apollo asked him, resigned.
"No," Phoenix replied, "But I also don't see us having much of a say in this until she gets bored."
"Fair enough..." Apollo groaned.
He looked around. There wasn't much to see around Athena's pillow. Her bright-yellow blankets matched the colour of her suit jacket, and the mattress itself was about the same colour of blue as Widget. When Trucy released her hold on him, he wandered off toward the side of the pillow.
He hadn't seen it before, but Athena's bedroom floor really was a mess. Clothes, bits of paper, books, and every other random belonging imaginable cluttered the floor all around. Looking down from the edge, Apollo spotted a plastic-wrapped pack of twelve boxes of orange juice jutting out from beneath the bed as well.
"Doesn't she have a fridge...?" he muttered to himself.
He turned to walk back to the others, when his foot slipped on the pillowcase a bit. He yelped, wobbling in place.
"Polly!" Trucy shouted in concern, running toward him. He frantically threw out an arm for her, and Trucy tried to catch his fall.
