Chapter #40

Alone with the fairy

    by: Unknown
"However," Sylveon continued speaking, her expression shifting into a pensive one as she eyed you intently,
"As for now, I'd like to talk to this human alone. Just to judge his character. "

"Sylve..." Glaceon said from behind you, leading you to look back at her; she was nervous, you could read it in her expression.

Sylveon smiled warmly.

"Relax, Glacey! I just wanna talk, nothing more!" she chimed.
"What is there even to say?" Espeon muttered under her breath.

In all of this, Eevee gently lowered her head down to the floor of the cave, allowing you to jump down from the top of her head to the cold hard stone.

You stood confused and stared at the giant fairy-type that just stood up for you; just what was the deal with Sylveon? Why should you be careful not to make her mad? She seemed so nice...

Your friend Eevee seemed to notice your expression, because she suddenly leaned down, to the point where her mouth nearly touched your ears.

"Relax, bud," she whispered,
"Whatever Glacey told ya about Sylveon, she exaggerated, I can assure. Sylveon can be a bit protective, but it's only because she's older than us all in here," she explained,
"... She and Umbreon."

You nodded in understanding.

"Well, why don't you get the others while I share a word with this little one?" Sylveon suggested while interrupting the conversation you were having; you discovered a pink, white and blue ribbon coming your way and couldn't do anything to stop it as it wrapped around your waist and lifted you up to the sky-blue eyes of Sylveon, who shot a bright smile at her siblings.

"Sure!" Eevee chimed,
"I'm gonna get Vaporeon!... You might want to watch out for Water Gun though... a single distraction and you find yourself soaked to the bone." Eevee addressed you.

"I swear I'll freeze the water in her mouth the next time she does that to me. " Glaceon chimed in while getting up,
"I'll get Leafeon. Go get Jolteon and Flareon, Espy. As for Umbreon, we'll have to wait until she wakes up. The sun's still high out there..."

So, one after another, the Eeveelutions left, Eevee skipping away, Glaceon with a small smirk and Espeon with a grunt of disdain.

It was gonna be a challenge to win the psychic-type's trust, you knew.

"So..." Sylveon began.

You remained silent for a few moments, processing how fast this whole thing was going, before turning to face the gigantic twin lakes that were the pristine white pokemon's eyes.

"How did you exactly get so small?" Sylveon asked you while she sat down, holding you up to her face with the smooth ribbon that was wrapped around you.

"I, um... can't quite explain it, since I have absolutely no idea how it happened," you replied,
"I just... woke up this size out there when Eevee came by and noticed me. She asked me to rub a sore spot she couldn't reach, which I did, and she told me she'd keep me as her friend... or 'bud'. Then, she brought me here to meet you girls... that's everything that's happened in the past hour, really."

Sylveon let the information you gave her sink in, before she offered a small nod and a smile,

"It was kind of you to help her, and it was kind of her to help you," she said, right before her smile waned, replaced by a wary expression,
"But there is something I should know, if you don't mind: is this just a smart trick of yours to try and hurt and/or catch us, like Espeon mentioned?"

You felt your heart sinking because the ribbon around your waist began tightening, like a fist trying to crush you slowly.

You struggled to maintain your calm, telling yourself that stammering or hesitating were going to doom you.

"No, it is not: I really am a shrunken human in need of protection and care." you said. Maybe not the most prideful words, but ones that'll guarantee you a place in this cave as an alive shrunken human.

Sylveon stared at you for a few moments in silence, examining you intently, before nodding her head.

"I sure hope so," she mumbled,
"I don't want to scare you or anything, but know that I ever find out you're lying to me, there WILL be quite unpleasant consequences."

Her face became threatening as she said this, and her ribbon gave you a quick, painful squeeze that was probably not even a taste of what the fairy was talking about.

Now you knew why Glaceon warned you about her, she definitely was very protective of her siblings.

"I swear I am not lying to you." you quickly assured.

Sylveon nodded again.

"Okay, I suppose I can believe you. If Eevee brought you home you must be trustworthy," she said, letting her smile come back,
"Excuse me for my manners; welcome to this cave, little human."

You were surprised by how quick she changed mood. Perhaps, she was a bit moody...

"Yeah, thanks..."
