Chapter #28

Mirabel, the Madrigal without a gift

by: Silver Dragon Author IconMail Icon
"Hey, did you know it was your fault that we lost the game?"

"Cut it out captain, you know it's a bad time." You answer irritably.

“I don't know how many years it's been a bad time, you just can't get over your traumas and move forward? I remember your skills when you joined the team, it seemed that with your mere presence you could turn the tide of the match. Your balance, your control, your ability to intercept, your ability to control the field at 360 degrees and to convince others to move according to your scheme like pawns on a chessboard. Where has all this gone?”

“If I can't bring out my talent, maybe it's because it's sleeping and nobody does anything to wake it up.”

"Talent? True sportsmen are not talented, they train constantly.”

“I've always given my best, but for you, captain, it's never enough. And the same goes for the coach. Maybe you should stop relying too much on me." End the angry speech and go home shirtless due to the rush to get out of the locker room, shower and go to bed. “I used to really believe I had talent, I realized I was wrong as soon as the level of the game got too high for me.” That said, you fall asleep to venture into dreamland.

When you wake up you are dizzy and feel a severe headache, yet you didn't drink alcohol yesterday, much less remember having nightmares. You look around and you realize you're not at home, whoever owns it is definitely a giant. Then you hear the sound of tiles falling off the floor and plates falling off the sideboard.

Initially you panic, then you notice, even if you sneak, the dishes are all in order on the table, while the tiles return to their place. It's like this haunted house is dancing.

“Casita, can you make me a cup of coffee?” Asks the voice of a girl in the distance. The cup is placed in front of the coffee pot, which tilts to fill it.

A 15-year-old Colombian girl walks into the living room, five-foot-two, curly black hair down to her chin, bushy eyebrows, hazel eyes, and visibly dark freckles on her nose and cheeks. She wears a white blouse and teal skirt, both with butterfly stitching. She's nearsighted, so she wears funny lime green glasses with round frames. To top it off she's wearing blue pom-pom earrings and a purse.

Do you recognize her. She is Mirabel Madrigal. Her grandmother settled here after escaping the 1000 days war. Calculating the time you estimate that you are now in your 50s, therefore about 60 years before your birth.

You are very happy that of all the girls you have come across her, a talentless underprivileged woman who tries to be accepted by her family. You think you two are the same, Not realizing that she never had a gift and she did everything to prove that she's someone, while you had a talent but didn't cultivate it properly.

Reminding you of the Encanto film, you remember that her cousin Dolores had a very excellent hearing, curious that she didn't hear you, maybe she is very far away, better this way, you didn't want to be discovered against your will. Now the question is, do you attract Mirabel's attention or not?
