Evan carried the long metal tub of grated cheese towards the walk-in refrigerator in the back of the kitchen. Using his elbow, the lion opened the latch and stepped inside the chilly room. Purgatory Pizza was closed for the day, and before Evan could leave he needed to store away all of the unused ingredients for the next day. Once he put away the tray of cheese, he'd be off for the night.
Inside, Evan saw Lucas in front of a pan full of pepperoni slices sitting on one of the racks. The red fox was taking stacks of slices and greedily gobbling them up. He stopped when the lion walked in. Reaching a paw in the tray, Lucas pulled out a massive pawful of pepperoni and waddle in the direction of the fridge door. Passing by Evan, the obese red fox hip checked the lion, knocking him to the cold floor and causing him to drop the container he was holding. Tons of shredded cheese fell to the floor as Lucas snickered to himself, slamming the door behind him.
The lion grumbled to himself as he cleaned up the mess. Lucas had been giving him crap all day. Snide comments, sneers, being an all-around pain in the butt. This was just the lastest in a long list of things that made working with Lucas insufferable. Were he in any other situation, Evan would simply quit. But he enjoyed the job in general. And he didn't want to quit. That would mean that Lucas won.
The lion picked up the tray and went to exit the fridge and throw out the now wasted cheese. Before he left, Evan saw that the plastic film on the pepperoni bin Lucas was eating from was still left off. Sighing, Evan went over to replaced the film. But then he was struck with an idea. The fat fox seemed to always be sneaking food. Several times during the day Evan saw Lucas shoving cheese and meat into his fat face. And Mr. Prosciutto knew this was something the fox did. Perhaps, the situation could be exasperated. If more food, and a lot more food, went missing, then surely Lucas would get the blame. Evan pretty much worked by himself, so there would be nobody to catch him sneaking bites here and there. Then again, maybe the lion should smooth things over with Lucas. It's be better to work with a friend than an enemy.
